FAQ

   HOW DID ÁYA GET STARTED?

In 2019 Kristina brought the idea of the Indigenous Comic Con started by Lee Francis in Albuquerque to the Denver American Indian Commision and was asked to be the director of Indigenous Pop X Denver. Indigenous Pop X, now called IndigiPopX, has moved on to Oklahoma City. A discussion for a new multicultural event was born out of that experience and so Kristina and Rafael started áyA Con and had planned to have the first year in 2020 but due to the pandemic ended up postponing the launch until 2023.

WHAT ABOUT COSTUMES AND COSPLAY?

Yes, this year we will have a cosplay contest with some epic prizes so get your costumes ready! And Saturday we have our Futurism Fashion Showcase so formal cosplays are encouraged, it’s dress to impress! Also our festival will take place in October, Halloween costumes are welcome! But please be mindful and respectful of the nature of our event, please no cultural stereotypes.

ARE ALL PARTS OF ÁYA CON FREE?

Great question! The majority of the festival is free to all attendees, however we do have a sponsor/staff/vendor dinner that is invite only and our Indigenous Futurism Fashion Showcase is a separate ticket and can be purchased in the events section of our website.

FASHION SHOW TICKET REFUND POLICY?

Unfortunately, these tickets are handled through a third party and refunds are NOT possible. So please keep this in mind when purchasing tickets to the Futurism Fashion Showcase.

IS YOUR EVENT KID/FAMILY FRIENDLY?

Absolutely! We are an intergenerational experience, with kiddo engagement in mind so no need to find a sitter! However please note that we do not censor artists and any content that is inappropriate for younger viewers will have signage so pay attention to the program.

I’M AN EDUCATOR, CAN I BRING A CLASS TO ÁYA CON?

Yes please! Friday from 2pm-5pm is our special educators day, we will have special panels and programming geared toward young minds at this time. And you are welcome to return anytime the rest of the weekend for the rest of the festival!

CAN I TAKE PICTURES AND VIDEOS?

Yes, and please tag us in your photos/videos if you post them on Social Media! We just ask that again you be respectful and ask permission if you are taking any photos of cultural dancers, cosplayers, or special guests. And be ready to graciously accept if the answer is no.
